Each year 40 million<\/a> family caregivers in the U.S. provide critical support to adults with a chronic, disabling, or otherwise serious health condition.<\/p>\n

For the second year, AARP and the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) partnered to bring to light personal journeys of AAJA members or accounts of other Asian American and Pacific Islanders who have been impacted by caregiving for a loved one.<\/p>\n

The winning works include:<\/p>\n

Sarah Eden Wallace <\/strong>(@sarahedenw<\/a>), “A strength supreme: When stubborn elders resist safety concerns<\/a>“<\/p>\n

\u201cI could honor my mother\u2019s perseverance. I could hold it as the gift of an inner fortitude she\u2019s passing to us at the end\u2026Her strength is my strength.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Frances Kai-Hwa Wang <\/strong>(@fkwang<\/a>), “Taking care of our tough immigrant moms across four generations, well, trying to<\/a>“<\/p>\n

\u201cEver since my dad passed away unexpectedly five years ago, it has been a delicate balance helping my mom learn how to live on her own\u2026and how not to be afraid.\u201d <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Caroline Cao <\/strong>(@maximinalist<\/a>), “My Resume Never Mentions I Was Daddy’s Caregiver<\/a>“<\/p>\n

\u201cI can hear his walker screeching across the floor, flinching up at every imagined squeak. Could I have done more as Daddy\u2019s caregiver?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
