Julianne Chiaet<\/span>\u00a0(AAJA-New York<\/a><\/span>) recently joined Mic’s branded content team as their newsletter\u00a0writer for GE’s tech and innovation newsletter, The GE Brief. Previously, she worked at Healthcasts, a media platform for doctors, running their\u00a0blog and editing all of their content. She was also working as a freelance journalist and has bylines in\u00a0Scientific American, The Guardian (Guardian Labs), The Daily Beast\u00a0and more. Julianne graduated from Rutgers University with a bachelors degree in journalism and media studies and a minor in Japanese. She currently serves as the AAJA New York chapter vice president. Nicole Dungca<\/span>\u00a0(<\/span>AAJA-New England<\/a><\/span>)\u00a0and two colleagues at The Boston Globe have been selected as finalists for the Livingston Awards, a national competition honoring outstanding journalism by reporters under 35. The stories revealed a pattern of alleged abuse of the homeless by security guards at a local sports arena, and led to the arrest of one of the suspects, and the firing of the security company. This year, Nicole and the Boston Globe’s Spotlight team were also chosen as finalists in the local reporting category in the Pulitzer Prizes. The seven-part series focused on racism and racial disparities within major institutions in the Boston region. Nicole, who serves as AAJA’s vice president of communications, has been at The Boston Globe since 2014, and joined the newspaper’s Spotlight team last year. Mark Kim<\/span>\u00a0(AAJA-Chicago<\/a><\/span>) will be joining the ESPN social media team as an assistant editor. Prior to joining ESPN, Mark worked as a videographer at NBC Sports Chicago and as a sports\u00a0reporter\/anchor for KOMU-TV. He graduated from the Missouri School of Journalism in May 2017. Pat Poblete<\/span>\u00a0(AAJA-Arizona<\/a><\/span>)\u00a0is a graduate student at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University studying broadcast journalism. He was recently awarded the Thomson Reuters\/White House Correspondents’ Association Trust in Reporting Scholarship where he will be moving to Washington, D.C. to report on Arizona politics for Cronkite News. Pat holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in political science with a focus on international relations, and hosts a weekly broadcast segment that seeks to decrease partisanship by highlighting the thought process behind contentious political topics. Benjamin Pu<\/span>\u00a0(AAJA-New York<\/a><\/span>) has accepted an offer as a breaking news associate producer for NBC News and MSNBC. His new duties include monitoring live events and breaking news situations, coordinating coverage across the NBC network and creating graphics and tape to contribute to coverage. He hopes he will soon be eligible for a blue checkmark on social media. Ben currently serves as the New York chapter’s social media chair and webmaster, the chair of the chapter’s Trivia Bowl and as the director of yung AAJA. Pamela Wu<\/span>\u00a0(AAJA-Sacramento<\/a><\/span>)\u00a0was recently honored with the Gold Star Community Service Award by the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs Association (APAPA) for her service to the Asian American community. Pamela is currently the Director of Communications and Media Relations for UC Davis Health. A longtime broadcast journalist, she is also a contributing host on Capital Public Radio, Sacramento\u2019s NPR member station. Previously, she was an anchor\/reporter at KCRA-TV (NBC). Pamela has served on AAJA\u2019s national advisory board and co-directs AAJA Media Institute, a program that trains diverse experts to become valuable sources to the media.
