For the first time, the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) is offering a new, one-day workshop based on JCamp, its long-running program for high-school journalists. This one\u2019s for the teachers.<\/p>

Any high-school instructor looking to start a journalism program or dramatically upgrade its current approach is invited to participate in this full-day event. The curriculum will consist of tips, support and discussion geared towards making you better leaders of your school program, especially if you\u2019re starting from scratch.<\/p>

Attendance is free and a complimentary lunch sponsored by the University of Minnesota will be included, but you must register<\/a> <\/span>before Feb. 8. Room may be limited so sign up early.<\/p>

KARE all-star reporter Boyd Huppert<\/strong><\/p>

With more than 100 regional Emmys, Boyd Huppert is one of the most honored journalists in TV history. He produces and hosts KARE 11\u2019s weekly \u201cLand of 10,000 Stories\u201d segment while also serving as a general assignment reporter. He has been recognized with 16 National Edward R. Murrow Awards, a national Emmy for feature reporting, the Scripps Howard Award, and multiple Sigma Delta Chi and National Headliner Awards. He was also entered into the Emmy Silver Circle for career contributions to the television industry.<\/p>

Minneapolis Star Tribune photo editor Kyndell Harkness<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>

Kyndell Harkness is the photo editor for news and sports at The Minneapolis Star Tribune where she has been a photojournalist for more than 10years. Harkness grew up in Harlem and is a graduate of Michigan State University. She started on the school paper, The State News, as a freshman and has not stopped working at a paper since. Her first staff position was at the Daily Press, a medium-size paper in southern Virginia. She spends most of her time trying to keep up with her son, William.<\/p>

St. Louis Park High School advisor Lori Keekley   <\/strong><\/p>

Lori Keekley has been the teacher and advisor for The St. Louis Park High School paper, The Echo, for more than 15 years. She was named the 2016 Dow Jones News Fund National High School Journalism Teacher of the Year, the second Minnesota teacher to ever win the award. The Echo staff won the First Amendment Press Freedom Award, CSPA Hybrid Gold Crown Award and NSPA Website Best of Show (small school) in 2016, and has earned dozens more awards during her tenure at the school.<\/p>

Minneapolis Star Tribune TV critic Neal Justin<\/strong><\/p>

Neal Justin is the chief media critic for The Minneapolis Star Tribune where he previously reported on nightlife and music and served as trends editor. He also regularly covers standup comedy. He previously covered crime at the Rockford Register Star and holds a degree in journalism from Northwestern. He is a past member of the AAJA governing board and currently serves as co-chair of the Star Tribune Guild.<\/p>

Minneapolis Star Tribune writing coach Kate Parry<\/strong><\/p>

Kate Parry is the assistant managing editor\/development and special projects at the Star Tribune in Minneapolis. In that role, she supervises projects, publishes ebooks, designs training for the newsroom and teaches writing and ethics. Parry has previously supervised the Star Tribune’s metro desk and its investigative team, as well as the features staff. She also has served as the newspaper’s ombudsman, investigating reader complaints, and received the  Associated Press Freedom of Information Award in 2007 for columns explaining First Amendment issues to readers.<\/p>
